Flooding in New Milford April 16, 2007

After more than 4 inches of rainfall were recorded at the New Milford Weather Center, the effects are now being realized.

Route 7 in New Milford is closed between McDonalds at Sunny Valley Road and Fort Hill Road near the Big Y shopping plaza. The Route 7 traffic is being rerouted behind the Big Y plaza via Fort Hill Road and Sunny Valley Road.

Grove Street in New Milford is also closed due to a mud slide. Grove Street is a popular alternative to Route 7 . Traffic is being detoured between Hine Hill Road and Anderson Ave / Fordyce Rd.

Winter Storm Update March 17, 2007

Friday's Winter storm will continue throughout the overnight. In New Milford the snow has changed over to a sleet / freezing rain mix. The peak snowfall measurement was 8.5 inches recorded earlier this evening. The changeover to sleet has compacted the snow and the snow/sleet depth is now 8 inches as of midnight.

Parking Ban in Effect

The New Milford Mayor's office has declared a snow emergency parking ban. Streets that are designated as Snow Emergency Routes will have restricted parking in effect this evening starting at 6:00 PM March 16, 2007. This ban is in effect until it is lifted by the Mayor's office.

The ban was placed to assist the New Milford Public Works Department in their snow removal efforts.

Proprety owners should make an effort to clear the area around near-by fire hydrants. The is important in the event the fire department needs access to the fire hydrant.

It also important for property owners to remember to remove snow from sidewalks within 24 hours after the storm ends per town ordinance.
