The hardware that this station gets data from is the Oregon Scientific WMR-968 wireless weather station. Because it's wireless, installation is easy. Power is supplied by solar cells on each transmitter and when the sun isn't strong enough to charge the onboard NiCad batteries, alkaline or lithium batteries are used. This station reports the temperature, humidity, wind speed & direction, barometric pressure and rainfall. It can also keep track of the daily hi's & lo's as well as trends. For more details about what this weather station can do, check out their website.

The computer running collecting all of this data is powered by a Pentium II running at 350MHz. During the testing period of this website this computer was found to be fast enough to be fast enough to keep up with all of the tasks of collecting the data, creating the graphics that you see on the website and uploading them. It's also able to do some other background tasks that I have running.

The software that is used to update this website and all of the graphical icons is called the Virtual Weather Station. This program is made by Ambient Corporation and it's the link between collecting the data from the weather station and uploading it to the Internet. This software also goes out on the Internet and collects data from local airports so you can also get official weather information. It gathers all of this information and creates up to date WebPages and sends this information to the website. The picture to the right is the live weather conditions from Ambient Corporation's weather site.

The location of this website is in New Milford, Connecticut. It is in the southern part of Litchfield County. I am in the Housatonic River Valley which means you might see lower wind speeds than you would see on the hilltops. Also you will see warmer temperatures here than on the hills of Litchfield county. See the map page for more details.
